Strange figures on top of lampposts throughout the city trigger and refer to the Groeningen site. Where the old ridge turret stood, a new tower rises where the negatives of the characters climb up the tower and form the plinth of a gilded stone in which a man, ‘Aard’, is wedged with his head upside down. Did he jump in? Was he chiselled in? Does ‘Aard’ have something to do with the Earth(‘Aarde’)? Or perhaps with ART?
Inspired by the Cistercian abbey, a corridor connects the functions and makes possible different routes through the museum. All the rooms are multifunctional and can make up part of the exhibition space, including the surrounding park.The walk-around is a shortened, public, soft connection in the city and it bridges the differences in height. The stair-like rising café provides terraces near the café, but also resting places after a visit to the museum or a sloping tribune during events in the park. Together with an outstanding part of the circulation, these facilities form the new, inviting face of the museum. An additional museum space that is at once large and adaptable, the dormitory with flexible panels and the chapel are used as air-conditioned spaces.
Bevreemdende figuren bovenop lantaarnpalen doorheen de stad triggeren en verwijzen naar de Groeningensite. Waar de oude dakruiter stond, rijst een nieuwe toren waar de negatieven van de personages de toren op klimmen en de sokkel vormen van een vergulde steen waarin ondersteboven een man “Aard” er met zijn hoofd is ingeklemd. Ingesprongen? Ingebeiteld? Heeft Aard iets met Aarde te maken? of met ART?
Geïnspireerd op de cisterciënzerabdij verbindt een pandgang de functies en maakt het verschillende parcours door het museum mogelijk. Alle ruimtes zijn multifunctioneel en kunnen deel worden van de expositieruimte, ook het park rondom. De rondgang is een verkorte publieke zachte verbinding in de stad en overbrugt de hoogteverschillen. Het trapvormig oplopende café biedt terrassen bij het café, maar ook rustplekken na museumbezoek of een oplopende tribune bij de evenementenin het park. Samen met een uitstekend deel van de circulatie vormen deze functies het nieuwe uitnodigende gezicht van het museum. Een toegevoegde grote flexibele aanpasbare museumruimte, het dormitorium met flexibele panelen en de kapel worden ingezet als geklimatiseerde ruimten.
Des personnages étranges au sommet des réverbères à travers la ville évoquent et se réfèrent au site de Groeninge. Là où se trouvait l’ancienne tourelle faîtière, une nouvelle tour s’érige, où les négatifs des personnages grimpent sur la tour, et forment le socle d’une pierre dorée dans laquelle un homme “ Aard” est coincé la tête à l’envers. Sauté dedans? Ciselé? “ Aard” a-t-il quelque chose à voir avec la“Terre”? Ou de l’ART?
Inspiré par l'abbaye cistercienne, un couloir relie les fonctions et crée différents parcours à travers le musée. Tous les espaces sont multifonctionnels et peuvent faire partie de l’espace d’exposition, y compris le parc environnant. Le passage circulaire est une connexion raccourcie, publique et douce dans la ville et il surmonte les différences de niveaux. Le café ascendant en forme d’escaliers offre des terrasses à proximité du café, mais également des lieux de repos après une visite au musée, ou une tribune en pente lors d’évènements dans le parc. Ensemble avec une partie du passage circulaire qui dépasse, ces fonctions forment le nouveau visage invitant du musée. Un espace muséal à la fois vaste et modulable, le dormitorium à panneaux flexibles et la chapelle sont déployés en tant qu’espaces climatisés.
